We watched this video of a dog at the beach. Here are a couple of our stories. The black and white fluffy dog is making footprints in the breakable sand. He is running in the waves. He is poking his slobbery tongue out. He is trying to block the waves. He's splashing and having fun. - Braxton The big black and white fluffy dog is running into the water. As part of our Te Reo we have been learning out Mihi and have been recording them so we can share with you. Today we read a recipe in Junior Journal 18 - How to make a Marshmallow Sandwich , we decided we just had to give it a try! We put two chocolate biscuits together, popped a marshmallow inside and microwaved it. It was incredible! We were really tempted to put more than one marshmallow in each sandwich but there was a big warning that said it would be too messy. We also had to let them cool when they came out, apparently the marshmallow would have been REALLY hot on the inside! It was hard having to wait. We have been learning our addition to 12. This is one of our independent activities. You have to count the number of dots on the dominos and place them next to the right number. This makes a domino flower. We love this challenge!

Miss Clothier's writing class went outside to play in the leaves.  "I was throwing the leaves in the air with some other kids in Miss Clothier's group." said Brooklyn "When the leaves fell down a little bit went in my t-shirt." said Louie "When it landed in Louie's hair it was hilarious." said Slade "It was funny when the leaves fell on the ground." said Kaiden "When we went to the gardens there was lots of leaves." said Luke & Oliver. 

Miss Clothier's Silver writing group are practising stretching words out so we can hear the sounds in them. Then we can write the sounds that we hear down.

This is a hark, or a shorse? We're not really sure! It's a funny hybrid animal. Today we looked at using similes in our writing. Similes are when we compare two things to each other using the words 'like' or 'as'. Here is Max and Dayton's writing. What do you like about it?

"We have been learning to use WOW words in our stories to make them more interesting. " - Fynn "We started with a simple sentence and then added WOW words to make it more interesting and detailed." - Caleb    Rylan - The gigantic hungry crocodile is trying to eat the scared man.    Mary- The scary crocodile is trying to eat the terrified man.    Theo - The big long crocodile is trying to eat the scared man.    Archie - The greedy and humongous crocodile is super. He or she is trying to eat the brave man. 

We watched this short movie and wrote a description on it, check it out!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPrWo5pEvyk The adorable, yellow, spotty, galloping giraffes tip toed on the beautiful ramp! One giraffe hopped on another giraffe and did a back flip into the blue water! The flexible giraffes took turns diving and back flipping into the beautiful, cool, blue, refreshing water. - Bella The spotty, spectacular giraffes galloped quietly up the shiny ramp. Then they back flipped into the refreshing pool and they drank the cool water. - Ben The cheeky, elegant giraffes are high diving off a diving board into a swirling pool. It looks like a current! The giraffes are walking up the ramp in the swimming cinema. The lanky, spotty giraffes are backflipping into the deep, light blue pool. The sports star giraffes had a drink before they were going to flip again.  - Mackenzie

After reading our Shared Book, students took turns at being in the 'Hot Seat'. They became a character from the story and answered questions from class mates pretending they were that character. In these pictures, Dayton is pretending to be 'Nadu' from the book Haere Atu!

The children loved taking a few moments out to move their bodies along with Cosmic Yoga. This helps refresh their brains ready for more learning.

At the end of last term, Kakariki group read a book called How to Make a Happy Cake. Look at what we made!Yummy! There were lots of instructions and ingredients. It was hard work making it and a fun time eating it!

This week we had the challenge of building a catapult made of lego and one rubber band, it was quite tricky!This one can fire a plastic bead. Kataraina and Izzy were the first to finish the challenge, well done girls!
